NURA: High-Density Ultrasonic Inspections

NURA is a robotic crawler engineered for autonomous, high-resolution ultrasonic wall-thickness measurements inside industrial boilers and other confined spaces — without scaffolding or work at height.

Autonomous high-resolution UT inspections

NURA is a modular robotic platform that performs dense ultrasonic wall-thickness mapping on membrane walls, independently suspended tubes, pressure vessels, and other boiler components.

The crawler acquires wall-thickness data at a resolution down to 5 mm spacing, enabling early and reliable detection of thinning and local defects. NURA is compatible with both ferromagnetic surfaces (membrane walls) and non-ferromagnetic tubes.

Designed for safety and precision, NURA eliminates scaffolding and manual work at height. You get 0.1 millimetre-level thickness data—even in complex geometries—so outages are shorter and maintenance planning is smarter.

Thanks to its modular design, NURA adapts to different wall types, geometries, and asset configurations. It can inspect between tubes with pitches down to 6 cm, making it ideal for high-density tube arrays and modern NDT of pressure equipment.

NURA Applications

Based on the platform architecture, the crawler covers a wide range of boiler and pressure-equipment configurations — from membrane walls to superheater and economizer tube bundles.

NURA inspection on boiler membrane wall

Boiler membrane walls

NURA performs full-coverage mapping of boiler membrane walls, including welds, tube sections, and membrane strips. Curved sections do not affect data quality; the crawler maintains consistent contact and accuracy.

  • Complete coverage without manual scanning
  • High-resolution thickness maps
  • Ideal for critical boiler zones
NURA scanning large CTC spacing and flat surfaces

Large CTC spacing & flat surfaces

For tube rows with larger spacing or flat plate surfaces, NURA adapts its configuration to ensure a dense scan grid. This avoids custom tooling and reduces inspection time and cost.

  • Flexible configurations for varying CTC distances
  • Efficient scanning of wide or flat surfaces
  • Compatible with pressure vessels and plate sections

Independent hanging tubes

A dedicated clamp-based module allows NURA to safely inspect suspended tubes. The robot tracks bends and curved sections without losing coverage, ensuring high-density UT data across the full length.

  • Single-tube or multi-tube clamps
  • Accurate measurements through bended tubes
  • Suitable for superheaters, economizers, and evaporator tube bundles
